Year 6 News

Welcome to All Saints' 2009. My name is Mrs Kay Murray and I will be teaching Year 6. I have had many years experience in the teaching profession, with a majority of it in Stage 3.
We are going to have a very busy year as Year 6 take on many roles of responsibility and are role models for the rest of the Junior School.
Towards the end of the term, the students will be trained in Peer Support as leaders in preparation for the delivery of activities in Terms 2 and 3. This is new to All Saints' and will be very exciting.
There are many more activities but too many to list now. I am looking forward to this year and know that it will be a memorable time. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Year 6 News

Over the last few weeks Year 6 students have experienced secondary classes as part of the stepping up into Year 7 programme.

They have completed lessons in Science with Mr Marcus Croft, Design & Technology with Mr Greg Thornton, Mathematics with Mr Patrick Sinclair and a lesson with Mrs Leanne Ferguson about Agriculture.

Two little kids (goats) were brought in and hand fed. Then different types of cheese and milk were sampled and the students had to guess whether they were made from cow, sheep or goat's milk. Year 6 had great fun experimenting with the different tastes, some liked some not liked.

Thank you to all the teachers that volunteered their time, Year 6 certainly enjoyed these experiences.

Year 6 Survivor Camp 2009

It wasn't an ordinaryMonday morning for year 6. For what we had to endure for the following two dayswas to call on all our survival skills. The team I was apart of was proudlynamed the Elements. The first activity was to choose the limited items thatwould keep us alive. Once we had chosen we had to setup our using only a coupleof tarps and rope. Then, the challenges began. We had to solve a series ofproblems to earn the clues that were to lead us to the antidote of the SleepingSickness. All-up the year 6 survivor camp was very exciting, fun and a test ofour initiative, problem solving skills and friendships. All I can say is 'Lookout next year Yr5!'

Year 6 participated in a survival challenge that lasted 2days and 1 night.

Our goal was to cure sleeping sickness, which had infectedour teachers.

Some of the activities were:

  • Performing first aid in our team mates,
  • Creating a animal trap,
  • Learning communication skills,

The weather was cold and wet butit didn't stop us from having a fantastic time.

Year 6 Machines

Year 6 recently completed a creative thinking task. They were asked to design and make a machine that would benefit mankind. They will then be writing a procedure on how the machine was made, an explanation on how it works and creating an expostional poster on why it is so good and should be manufactured. The machines have become a centre piece of the Year 6 room.

Year 6 students have began to make their puppets in readiness for the Valedictory Dinner at the end of the year. Ms Toni Daymond will be coming in each Thursday afternoon to teach the students how to design and make their puppet heads.
It has been very messy but great fun.
