Year 2 News

Term3 finished with a fantastic pirate party and some amazing pirate faces made out of junk. We're now off to a very busy start to what is always a very high energy and fast paced term. We have been very pleased to welcome Isabella and it is great to have a new student in the class. Isabella has already become a wonderful member of the class.

This term we have our visits to the workplaces of many of the dads, uncles and grandfathers of students in our class as we study the HSIE topic 'Workers in the Community'. This is always an interesting, exciting and stimulating time and it something that the students remember and discuss for a long time afterwards.

The first practices for our Thanksgiving Service have taken place and the Year 2

students are looking forward to this very special occasion in which they have significant roles. Spring art is starting to appear in the classroom and has added to the brightness of our learning environment.

We are looking forward to the Life Education Van. This will be a great follow upto the Term 3 Science and Technology topic 'What's for Lunch'. The Deadly Australian Show and the Book Fair will also be highlights of this term. And Christmas art and craft will be lots of fun. Have a great term everyone! Mrs Gabrielle Darlington












Learning about Middle Ages

There'sthe clanging of metal and lots of buzzing in the air as the knights of old andMini-beasts of all shapes and sizes take over the classroom. This term Year 2are studying The Middle Ages (HSIE) and Mini-beasts (Science and Technology). We'llbe learning about the lives of Middle Ages communities, knights and theimportance of horses. One of the highlights of this unit is the making of awarhorse sculpture in Creative Arts. The children will be busy collecting metaljunk and working out ways to create this powerful and brave horse. Thewonderful world of insects will be the focus of research and activities inScience and Technology. Using the text types Information Report and Explanationthe children will focus on one Mini-beast and make a presentation to the class.

Alongwith the Infants Musical and the canvas for the art show we are having a verystimulating, busy and creative time this term.
