Year 1 Music CompositionsYear 1 MusicIn term 2 the students of All Saints' college welcomed the Zephyr String Quartet to the school as part of the Musica Viva in schools program. As preparation for the concert we listened to some of the works they were to perform. The students in years one and two were very interested the piece, Esther the Cat, which used lots of unusual techniques to make sounds that a cat might have heard when out exploring at night. The students used the compositional ideas of a walking bass and unusual sounds to create their own compositions about Bono the Dog. We also looked at the Cuckoo Quartet by Haydn, and from this we wrote and performed compositions of bird conversations. We then chose one score of each composition to record as a class and to share on the website.Frances McLeod, Music Teacher. It really, really sounded good.Gabrielle I wanted it to sound like Bono was happy. I liked the part where he met the Bone man. I liked writing it because it was funny. I liked recording it because I wanted it to be on the internet. Charlie I wanted it to sound like the real thing. I liked the part where the plane went RRRRR. I like writing it because it was not too long or short. Christopher I wanted it to sound like real music. I liked the part where Bono heard rock music. I liked writing it because I wanted it to sound good. I liked recording it because it was really good. Bradley I wanted it to sound like a proper dog. I like the part that everyone did together.
