Hello I'm Mrs Porter. I am a trained Early Childhood Teacher with 18years experience. I have two young daughters and a very supportive husband. Werecently returned to Bathurst from a wonderful summer holiday together. We hada week on the coast at Callala Beach in Jervis Bay followed by a week inCanberra. I was very impressed with the various family activities Canberra hadto offer. Questacon is a must see if you have young children. I'm extremelyexcited to be in a larger refurbished room with the bonus of air conditioning!Sally Parsons and I had a wonderful time finding homes for our resources andmaking the room as user friendly as possible. I look forward to getting to knowthe children in my class more personally and teaching a very enriched programof stimulating activities.
Hi, my name is Sally Parsons. I have been working in EarlyChildhood and Health Education for over 11 years. I have threewonderful young boys of my own and a gorgeous husband. I am veryexcited to be teaching your child this year. We have had a fabulousthough hot start to the year and we are really appreciating ourairconditioning. Our sunflowers are blooming beautifully that the 2008T2 planted for us. In turn we will harvest the seeds through the year,give some away as presents, plants some for ourselves and some for the2010 class. Did you know that each sunflower is made up of hundreds offlowers with external petals to attract the bees? I look forward toteaching your child this year in our beautiful new classroom. Week 29
Welcome back everyone for our last term in 2009. We are continuing our sounds in 'Jolly Phonics'. This week our sounds are 'ou' and 'oi'. We are going to paint 'owls' and learn that different letters make the 'ou' sound. We will make a 'mouse house'. For the 'oi' sound we will 'oil' paint stained glass windows and make 'boiled' Christmas Puddings. It's not far away! We are beginning to think about Christmas and learn our words for our concert. Week 28
The Transition children have been learning about the 'qu' digraph and volume this week. The children have enjoyed filling various containers in the water trough, making a very colourful quilt and quacking ducks as well as testing how quick they were at catching 'quick quackers'. We have begun our Road Safety Program and have practised crossing a road safely, always remembering to hold a grown-ups hand. Some very interesting gadgets from the kitchen have been presented for news this week. The children have had fun demonstrating and explaining how to use them. To consolidate the 'th' sound, on Friday T3 will sing 'I hear thunder' with T5 for their first ever Assembly performance. We will take this opportunity to wish everyone a restful holiday before we begin a very busy and exciting Term 4.
Week 27
We are learning more sounds in 'Jolly Phonics'. This week our sound is 'th'. We enjoyed making head bands using things with the 'th' sound in them. We had fun painting pictures of a thunderstorm. We did some thumb printing. We listened to the stories of Thumbelina and Tom Thumb and made finger puppets. We enjoyed cooking and eating 'thick' and 'thin' toast!! In Mathematics we are explored the number '10'. We wrote the numbers on our hand prints! We are thinking about 'inside' and 'outside' with our Bear friends. --We are continuing to think about 'Healthy Living'. This week we looked at 'exercise'. In week 7 Term 3 we will be exploring the digraph 'sh' by: Singing loud and soft songs 'sh', Shaky shaky songs, swish our pony tails, Reading Where is the green sheep? By Mem Fox, Making our own sheep with paper curls, fingerpainting with shaving cream, Mathematics. We are exploring day and night. We are learning about nocturnal animals and different jobs people do in the day and night. We are making our own pictures of things that happen in the day and night. Christian Studies with Father Paul and Library with Mrs Crofts. In Healthy living we are exploring exercise. We will be doing our favourite exercise and reading our exercise stories that we wrote last week. We are focusing also on the importance of sleep to rest, recover and most importantly… to grow. We can read 'Go to Sleep' by Melvin and Gilda Bergen Our dramatic play includes hairdressing with shampoo , shopping lists and shopping for groceries, Settling babies 'ssshhhhh', Music with Mrs Crowley, Japanese with Mr Pike.
Week 25
We are learning more sounds in 'Jolly Phonics'.This week our sound is 'ch'. We are going to enjoy cooking 'Chinese Fried Rice' and eating it with 'chop sticks'. We are having fun completing our Father's Day cards and gifts. In Mathematics we are investigating 'lines'. We will make some very interesting and imaginative drawings using lines. We are thinking about 'whole and half' with our Bear friends. We are continuing to think about 'Healthy Living'. This week we will look at a 'healthy diet' and eat some healthy food. We are going to enjoy - Music with Miss Turnbull, P.E. with Mr Sanger, Christian Studies with Father Paul, Japanese with Mr Pike, Library with Mrs Croft We are looking forward to our Father's Day breakfast on Friday the 4th of September from 7.45am until 8.30am and the Spring Fair on Sunday the 6th of September. Week 24
The Transition children have been exploring the 'y' and 'x' phonemes and 3D shapes this week. We made yellow butter and yachts, investigated x-rays and made 'x' headbands. Children have located 3D shapes as well as moulded 3D constructions with playdough. We have started our Healthy Living Program and have made a collage of healthy and unhealthy foods. For news the children have shared their favourite children's book and consolidated their knowledge of words such as title, author and illustrator. We would like to thank Miss Jasmin and Mrs Elbourne for their help in T3 and look forward to sharing a yummy breakfast with our Dads next Friday.
Week 23
This week in Transition we are learning more sounds in 'Jolly Phonics'. *This week our sounds are 'oo' as in 'cook' and 'oo' as in 'moon'. *We are going to enjoy cooking and making a 'hooting' owl. *We are going to have fun making a solar system with paper mache planets for our Science Day on Friday the 21st of August. *We are looking forward to dressing up as astronauts and aliens. ---In Mathematics we are learning about '0'. ---We are thinking about 'ordering by size' and 'matching' with our Bear friends. ---We are continuing our 'Healthy Little Ears' program and will learn how to blow our noses effectively with our friends 'Wiff' and 'Sniff' and how to use a tissue correctly. We enjoyed Mr. Cant's presentation on his Smart Board. It demonstrated clearly how our ears work and how sound travels to our brain. We are going to enjoy - Music with Miss Turnbull, P.E. with Mr Sanger, Christian Studies with Father Paul, Japanese with Mr Pike and Library with Mrs Croft.
Week 22
In Transition this week were are learning the digraph 'ng' and phoneme 'v'. We filled balloons with rice to make strong balls. Our exercise circuit made us strong too with red apple - runs, salad - rolls, vegetable - v holds and kiwi fruit - kicks. We painted volcanos with lava bursting out. We drove Vic's van all around the playground exploring space-position in Maths - under fort - through tunnels, over bridges - in cubbies - on top of hills, around trees. Mr Cant in Year 3 showed us how our ears work on the smartboard. We are learning to blow our nose and care for our ears. T5 read "Thingnapped!" by Robin Klein where "Thing" gets kidnapped by a fellow student.
Week 21
---We are learning more sounds in 'Jolly Phonics'. *This week our sound is 'w'. *We are going to have fun making 'wands' and eating 'water melon'. *We are painting pictures of a 'windy' day and 'wavy' lines. ---In Mathematics we are learning about the number 9. ---We are thinking about 'in front' and 'behind' with our Bear friends. ---We are continuing our 'Healthy Little Ears' program and will learn how to blow our noses effectively with our friends 'Wiff' and 'Sniff'. ---We are going to the BMEC on Tuesday to see 'The Fastest Boy in the World'. ---We are looking forward to our visit to the Bathurst City Library for 'Story Time' on Thursday. We are going to enjoy- Music with Miss Turnbull, P.E. with Mr Sanger, Christian Studies with Father Paul, Japanese with Mr Pike, Library with Mrs Croft. *We will continue with our home readers. Week 20
The children are all very eager to be back at school after a long break and have quickly settled back into the routine. We are excited to welcome two new Gap students to Transition. Chris Moffatt will be in T2 and Jasmin Morrison will be in T3. We wish them all the best for this exciting new chapter in their lives. This week Transition focused on the 'z' sound and enjoyed painting zebra stripes on headbands, dancing the Zum Gali, Gali dance playing with our Zoob construction and Fuzzy felts as well as watching a fizzy explosion! We welcome Father Paul back into our classrooms after having a terms break and look forward to listening to his interesting bible stories. T5 would also like to welcome Miss Hilary Turnbull who will be teaching them music while Frances McLeod is on maternity leave. This term we commence the "Healthy Little Ears" Program. The program encourages children to blow their nose to prevent ear infections and glue ear. We look forward to chatting with you at the parent/teacher interviews in week 3! Mrs Gaal from the S.P.O.T. foundation (Spot Says Be Safe Around Your Pets) visited us this week and we learnt about how to care for our pets, how to be safe around pets and how to be kind to our pets.
Week 16
This week Transition focused on the 'b' and 'ai' sounds, learning about the number seven and listening to a talk from Senior Sergeant Sue Rose. Sergeant Sue spoke about stranger danger, the role of a Police Officer and the importance of knowing your phone number. We enjoyed dot printing boomerangs, blowing bubbles and hitting a ball with a bat. For the sound 'ai' we carefully crumpled paper into small balls to make a snail and enjoyed stories and songs about the rain! In Maths we counted out seven matchsticks to make a ladder with seven rungs and learnt about the seven colours of the rainbow. We would like to thank Mrs Vincze for helping us learn while Mrs Porter was away attending a course.
Week 15
This week in Transition ---We are continuing 'Jolly Phonics'. *The sounds are: 'l' and 'f'. *We are making 'lion masks', 'fish' and 'fire engines', using paint, sponges and collage. *We are reading books about fire, fish, lions and a lighthouse keeper. ---We are thinking about 'the days of the week'. We will learn their names and correct order. ---We are exploring floral shapes and decorating Mrs. Bear's pajamas. ---We are going to learn about 'responsibility' with our friends 'Milly and Molly' and finding out ways to care for our pets. We are going to enjoy- Music with Mrs McLeod, P.E. with Mr Sanger, Christian Studies with Mike Schultz as Father Paul is on leave, Japanese with Mr Pike and Library with Mrs Croft. Next Wednesday, 3rd June Transition children will be visited by the Police in the afternoon. The children are looking forward to the experience.
Week 14
In week 14 at Transition we • explored the phonemes 'o' and 'u' • spatter painted octopus' • juiced our own orange juice • made on/off light switches • explored the number 6 and found lots of ways to make 6 • T5 made an orange poppyseed cake in the shape of an o • Had a mini Olympics with Mr Sanger • Played cheeky monkeys and jumped on and off the bed • Painted umbrellas • Visited the town library • Learnt about care and consideration of others in 'Milly and Molly' • Had lots of fun
Week 13
This week Transition focused on the 'd' and 'g' sounds and learning about length - long and short. We enjoyed drawing our very own dinosaurs and telling some interesting stories about our drawings. We made some groovy glasses and saw the world in green. In Maths we made a very long sausage dog by sequencing lots of coloured paper rectangles. We look forward to visiting the fire station when we cover the 'f' phoneme.
William The dinosaur went on an adventure. He ate some tall trees. He pushed down the tree. The volcano blew up and the dinosaur died.
Sophie The family went to find some food and they ate all the food and mother had little eggs still waiting in her nest and there was a big waterfall and all that water went into some dams and little dinosaur went to get a drink and there was a big volcano. It was about to splurt but they were too fast and it went on all the grass and they had some nice food after all. The end.
Nathaniel The volcanoes smoking and some of the grass is on fire and more grass is green and the dinosaurs eat the green grass and the dinosaurs don't eat the trees. And it grows again but he didn't eat it because it was all brown.
Millicent The volcano was exploding so the dinosaur had a drink and a good snack and so they went all the way to Japan. And the babies were about to hatch so they had to run quickly and the dinosaurs covered them in some dirt and so the dinosaur sat on the eggs for ten years and the eggs were hatched.
Week 12
---We are continuing 'Jolly Phonics'. *The sounds are 'r' and 'm'. *We are making 'racing red rockets' and 'mermaid', using paint, streamers and glitter. *We are very excited about entertaining our 'marvelous mums' at our Mother's Day Morning Tea. ---We are thinking about 'heavy' and 'light' *We are looking at the bear family and helping them have a ride on the see-saw. ---We are thinking about 'long' and 'short'. *Come and see our funny clowns with their 'long' or 'short' legs. ---We are looking at autumn. Have you seen our beautiful autumn leaf window? ---We are going to learn about 'coping with grief' with our new friends 'Milly and Molly'. *We are looking forward to spoilng you on Sunday Mum! Yet another busy week for the Transition crew! Our phonemes for the week were 'p' and 'n' so we celebrated by having a Princess and Pirate Party. We practiced the 'p' sound by puffing out the candles on the pink pig cake and drew people on our noisy aeroplanes. Plenty of rough and rowdy pirates were in contrast to pretty princesses managing their high heels and various accessories. We have been discussing various items that can be recycled and have seen many fantastic creatures and robots made from recyclable items during news. We have explored the colour pink by making and tasting a strawberry smoothie and used the heart shape in a collage activity.

Week 8

'Brown'. *We will go on a nature walk and see how many things we can see that are brown.. *We are going to paint pictures in shades of brown. *We are going to make and eat brown chocolate muffins! ---We are thinking about octagons. *We are making pictures using octagons. ---We are thinking about the 'Number 3'. *We are going to discover that many things come in 'threes'…"The Three Bears", "The Three Little Pigs" and "3 Billy Goats Gruff". We are going to enjoy: Music with Mrs McLeod, P.E. with Mr Sanger, Christian Studies with Father Paul, Japanese with Mr Pike, Library with Mrs Croft. *This week, on the 19th of March, we are visiting the Bathurst City Library for story time.
Week 7
This week we began our Jolly Phonics program starting with 's' and 'a'. We found Sammy Snake, we had 'ants' crawling up our arms. We mixed blue and yellow together to make midori (green) on our diamond kites. We plucked the last of our Sunflower seeds out and pulled the sunflower plants out to make ready our garden for winter planting. We made fantastic pictures with 2D shapes and learnt about sun safety.

---We are thinking about Nursery Rhymes. *We are learning 'Hey Diddle Diddle' and 'Polly Put The Kettle On'. *We are making some beautiful teapots using colourful dye and silver paper. ---We are thinking about the colour 'Orange'. It is a 'warm' and 'happy' colour. We are going to paint pictures in shades of orange. We are going to make and eat orange jelly! ---We are thinking about rectangles. We are making pictures using rectangles. We are going to make prints using rectangular blocks. ---We are thinking about the 'Number 2'. We are going to discover how many different things come in 'twos'. We are learning about 'straight' and 'curvy'! We are going to enjoy Music with Mrs McLeod; P.E. with Mr Sanger Christian Studies with Father Paul; Japanese with Mr Pike; Library with Mrs Crofts. This week the Transition children have been investigating the colour purple and the oval shape. They have discovered that if you mix red and blue play dough and red and blue paint you will make the colour purple! We had fun icing and decorating purple oval biscuits not to mention eating them. Our nursery rhyme this week is Mary, Mary Quite Contrary. Children enjoyed planting seedlings and listening to stories about how plants grow. Our 'news' theme this week was Nursery Rhymes. Each child had the opportunity to sing or retell a nursery rhyme in front of an audience! The teachers are very impressed with the children's confidence. Well done, Transition! Charlie makes purple play dough by mixing red and blue!

Week 4
T2 have beanbag spiders balancing all over their bodies.
We are learning about spiders. We will have balancing and creeping spiders (bean bags) on different parts of our body in the Perceptual Motor Program. We are learning 'Incy Wincy Spider' and making our own spiders to go up and down water spouts. We are marble rolling spider webs. We are singing 'Little Miss Muffet' and making finger puppets. We are exploring the colour yellow (kiiro in Japanese) triangles, and the number 1. Next Tuesday we are having a picnic on the oval at 6pm. All parents, children and extended families are welcome. What fun. The P&F will be selling drinks, iceblocks and sausage sandwiches. We also enjoy the wonderful activities set up in our Transition playground.

Week 1
Firstly a huge thanks must go to all the 'Workies' at All Saints' College who have done a fabulous job getting our rooms ready for the beginning of the year. It's been a very exciting process for Transition staff, having the opportunity to move into freshly painted and carpeted rooms. It's been fun redecorating and finding a 'new home' for the furniture and resources. The children have had an extremely smooth start to the year and are already meeting new friends and are being very engaged in the activities in the room. The formal program finishes at 2.30pm in Transition so please enter the room to collect your child anytime after then. After School Care Starts at 3.13pm in the 2/3-Day Transition Classroom.It's been lovely meeting new parents and carers and we look forward to seeing you at the information evening, Friday Jan 30th at 7pm.Regards, Liz, Sally, Deb and Eva
