Summer Sport

Cricket

Cricket Coordinator: Mr Philip Cant

Cricket is a popular sport at All Saints' College Junior School. Boys and girls inTransition to Year 1 participate in the in2cricket program at the school on a Saturday morning. This is an exciting program which enables participants to be involved in a range of activities that develops their cricket skills in a fun and engaging environment. Students in Years 2 to 3 participate in the School's Kanga cricket team in the local Bathurst and District Cricket Association during Terms 1 and 4 on a Saturday morning.

This is a modified game that uses asoft ball and plastic equipment to allow the students to develop their skills in a safe and non competitive environment. Children in Years 4 to 6 typically beginning playing with a harder ball and begin to use protective equipment such as pads, gloves and a helmet. The emphasis in all forms of the game is onstudent participation, enjoyment and skill development.

Training for the Kanga and Hardball teams is held during After School Sport on Wednesday afternoon between 3:30 and 4:30.

Basketball

Basketball Coordinator: Mrs Kay Murray

Basketball teams consist of boys and girls from years 4, 5 and 6. We normally enter 4 teams, 2 girls teams and 2 boys teams. The level of ability is often wide as some students often take to the court without even having held a basketball, let alone played a full game.

The more experienced players quickly teach all players the rules and necessary skills. Training takes place on a Wednesday afternoon and matches are played on a Friday night at the Bathurst Basketball Stadium. In the competition we play teams from other schools of similar age and ability, with a qualified umpire to control the game. There is a court cost to pay each night and the singlets are provided by the school.

Aerobics

Aerobics Coordinator: Mrs Elizabeth Rolfe

School aerobics is an exciting and energetic program offered at All Saints' College for primary school children. If offers children an extra curricular activity that promotes health and fitness and is suitable for both boys and girls. We practise on Monday afternoons from 4:30-5:00 at the school and perform at the Spring Fair and open day. We attend the School Aerobic Competition held each year in Sydney.

This is and exciting and motivating event where teams from all over N.S.W participate. The emphasis is always on "trying our best", not being the best.

Tennis

Tennis Coordinator: Mrs Sally Allcorn

Tennis is a summer sport offered to All Saints' students during terms 1 and 4. The All Saints' Junior School Tennis Team meets every Wednesday afternoon at the School Tennis Courts. During this time the players are divided into two groups.

One group consists of our competition players who compete in the Saturday morning local competition at the Bathurst Tennis Center. The other group is involved in coaching. The competition players refine their skills during the training session as well as work on match fitness and technique to assist them in their games.

Coaching is provided for children who are not quite 'match ready' for competition tennis. The children are given many opportunities to practice their ground strokes, volleys and serves and are reminded of the correct grip, stance and court position they should adopt for each stroke.

Where possible, juniors are partnered with more experienced players to develop their physical skills and overall awareness of how the game of tennis is played.

All players are also encouraged to follow good tennis etiquette for example, serving with two balls, the person serving keeping the score, communicating with your partner and shaking hands at the end of a match.

If you are interesting in becoming a member of our Tennis Team, or you would like to find out more about the program we offer, please see Mirs Allcorn or Mrs Porter.
