Remembrance Day Service at All Saints' College and video
13 November, 2009
On Wednesday, November 11th, the whole of the College gathered under the trees facing the flagople. It was to remember Armistice Day.
The Prefects and Mr Stewart Ross led the readings and prayers for the occasion. Wreaths were laid at the foot of the Flagople to remember the fallen and a minutes's silence was kept at 11.00am.
For the College though, there is yet a deeper significance, for a number of former All Saints' students served in the 'Great War' and some of those did not return. Their names are read out at this ceremony each year.
This year the occasional speaker was related to one of the All Saints' students who died. Mr David Veness and his wife Cheryl were present to speak about Maxwell Veness, David's second cousin. Maxwell was a student at All Saints' in the very early 1900's. He went from Bathurst in 1915 to serve with the 10th Artillery Brigade at the Western Front. As a gunner he would have personal care of the horses which pulled the heavy artillery into position. He received a Military Medal in 1917 but while trying to save his horses from sniper fire he himself was hit and died. He died only months before the end of the war on April 5th, 1918. In the College Chapel there is a plaque in his memory.
May we be ever grateful to those who gave their lives in the service of our Country and for our freedom.

Years 7 & 8 Music Night
13 November, 2009
On Wednesday, 4th November, the students in Years 7 and 8 performed for parents and friends.
This concert marks the culmination of the practical component of the mandatory music course and it was great to hear the level of skill developed by so many of the students.
Band, string and guitar groups played along withe the occasional special duo and trio, and many complimentary remarks were made after the concert by the appreciative audience.
First Communion
12 November, 2009
On Wednesday, 11th November, many of the Year 6 students received their First Communion. In this Diocese of Bathurst, as in the Anglican Church as a whole, the ideal is that once someone has been baptised they can participate in the life of the Church. One part of this is taking the Holy Communion or Eucharist. This is both a reminder of Jesus Christ's life, death and resurrection as well as a drawing upon the living presence of Jesus Christ for us now.
Now the students can participate fully in their local church. Confirmation now becomes a real time of commitment, rather than a doorway to Communon. We plan to have a College Confirmation at the Cathedral next year on Friday, June 4th.
Father Paul.
