  • Getting ready for Year 7.

    21 November, 2009

Over the last few weeks Year 6 students have experienced secondary classes as part of the stepping up into Year 7 programme.

They have completed lessons in Science with Mr Marcus Croft, Design & Technology with Mr Greg Thornton, Mathematics with Mr Patrick Sinclair and a lesson with Mrs Leanne Ferguson about Agriculture.

Two little kids (goats) were brought in and hand fed. Then different types of cheese and milk were sampled and the students had to guess whether they were made from cow, sheep or goat's milk. Year 6 had great fun experimenting with the different tastes, some liked some not liked.

Thank you to all the teachers that volunteered their time, Year 6 certainly enjoyed these experiences.

  • DesignTECH nomination - Cameron Picker

    19 November, 2009

Congratulations to Cameron Picker for being nominated for DesignTECH 2009. DesignTECH is a showcase of Major Design Projects, which exhibit the creative genius of design students throughout NSW.

Cameron's mother was the catalyst for his innovative design when he witnessed her grimacing in pain while hanging out the washing. He quickly realised that the constant bending over was a big problem. The trolley she used was ergonomically too low, unstable to push and the flaking paint contaminated the washing. Developing a number of prototypes,

Cameron produced the 'Hang it Easy'. His efficient design hooks onto the centre pole of the iconic rotary clothesline and can be positioned at any height to suit the user. It then folds out to securely support the basket of washing. No home should be without one!

We would like to wish Cameron well as he considers his options for getting his products into the market!

  • DesignTECH nomination - Melanie Sweetnam

    19 November, 2009

Congratulations to Melanie Sweetnam for being nominated for DesignTECH 2009. DesignTECH is a showcase of Major Design Projects, which exhibit the creative genius of design students throughout NSW.

Melanie, motivated to reduce the pollution of the humble but destructive plastic bag produced a new material she called 'Poly Melt' (polymers melted together). Ironing plastic bags together, she found she could produce functional and aesthetically attractive products in the form of clothing, artificial flowers, handbags and umbrellas. While her new material will not completely solve plastic bag pollution, it will give a second life to the humble but destructive plastic bag and delay its final end into landfill.

We would like to wish Melanie well as she considers her options for getting her products into the market!
