    23 November, 2008

The Head of College, Mr Peter Miller, has announced the new Director of
Boarding and Head of Watson House. Mr Eliot Sanger has been appointed to this role from his senior pastoral role at Barker College, Hornsby, where he has been on staff for 11 years. Previously Mr Sanger was a member of staff at St Luke's Grammar School, Dee Why, Peninsula Grammar School, Warriewood and St Paul's Grammar School, Cranebrook.

Mr Sanger is married to Georgina with three children but managed to maintain an active involvement in coaching athletics and rugby as well as a number of outdoor pursuits while maintaining regular participation in the congregation of St Stephen's Anglican Church, Normanhurst.

His commitment to boarding has been demonstrated by Mr Sanger's long term role in boarding at Barker College. He is also due to complete a Certificate in Residential Care at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) at the end of this year.

The Sanger family will move to Bathurst in January 2009 in preparation for the commencement of the new school year, with the return of the boarding students on January 27th. We warmly welcome them to our wonderful community.

  • Year 6 Valedictory Dinner.

    22 November, 2008

On Friday, 21st November, students, parents, friends and staff gathered together in the College Chapel to celebrate Year 6 and their completion of Primary School. Father Paul Woodhart conducted the service and various items performed by the students were sprinkled throughout the proceedings. This included musical items and five puppet shows that reflected discos, PE injuries, camp, debating and sports carnivals.

At the conclusion of the service, everyone gathered outside for photographs and pre-dinner food. Once this was finished, everyone took their seats in the Dining Room that had been decorated by parents that afternoon. Mr Chris Jackman, Head of Junior School, welcomed everybody and Mrs Kay Murray (Year 6 teacher) extended a thank you to all involved in the preparations of the dinner. The main meal was served which was then followed by presentations to the College, the students and Mrs Murray. After dessert the Junior School Captains, Angus McClelland and Eliza Crozier, cut the traditional cake.

To finish the night, the students performed a dance to the music of "High School Musical". The night was very special and everybody had a great time. A big thank you is extended to all individuals who contributed in some form towards the success of the night.

  • Lucy Bremner excels at tennis in 2008

    20 November, 2008

Lucy Bremner (Year 11) has participated in many tournaments throughout the year and has achieved outstanding success.

    • In March, Lucy finished runner-up in the 16 Years Girls Bathurst Junior Open (this is a nationally ranked tournament which attracts over 300 players throughout Australia).

    • Throughout the Central West, a series of tournaments are held under the banner of Medibank Junior Development Series (MJDS). Lucy participated in 12 of these tournaments, winning seven (Blayney, Springwood, Hawkesbury, Cowra: Forbes, Bathurst and Grenfell), runner-up in three others and semi-finalist in the remaining two. This effort won her the top point score for the 16 Years Girls and qualified her for the Champion of Champions tournament in which she finished runner-up, thus qualifying her for the State Finals.

    • At the State Finals in Gosford Lucy won two matches and eventually lost to the Consolation Winner in two tough sets.

Lucy was announced as the Western Region Academy of Sport Tennis Athlete of the Year during the 2008 WRAS presentation evening. This award has topped off a great year in tennis for Lucy, who has worked tirelessly at improving her game.

Lucy also competed in the Cowra Junior Open Tournament where she finished runner-up in the 16 Years Girls Singles, losing to a player ranked inside the top 200 female players in Australia.

Lucy has worked hard throughout the year, often training three to five days a week whilst doing her schoolwork.

Congratulations Lucy and all the best for your sporting future!
