  • Presentation of Memorial Flags

    2 October, 2009

At the Benefactors' Service on Thursday, 1st October, a Union Jack and an Australian Red Ensign carried by Lieutenant Colonel Clive Wentworth Thompson during World War I were processed into All Saints' Cathedral.

These flags were carried by the 2009 Senior School Captains, Samantha Burbidge and Cameron Picker, and presented to the Dean of All Saints' Cathedral, The Very Reverend Andrew Sempell, and the All Saints' College Chaplain, The Reverend Paul Woodhart, by Ms Belinda Thompson.

The flags were presented to The Very Reverend Andrew Sempell with the following words: Dean Sempell, these flags were carried by a former student of our school, Lieutenant Colonel Clive Wentworth Thompson, through Egypt, Gallipoli and the Western Front during the First World War and were presented by his family to the College. We now entrust them to the Cathedral Church to be placed in the Warriors' Chapel in memory of those students of All Saints' College who served in the Great war of 1914-1918.

The Dean responded with: I thank you for the presentation of these flags and receive them for laying up in this Cathedral. Almighty God, we remember all those who served and gave up their lives on behalf of our nation in the Great War - and especially those former students of All Saints' College. We pray that these flags may be a reminder of their service and self-sacrifice; in the name of Christ. Amen.

The flags were then placed on the altar.
