• Junior School Choral Concert 2018

    13 June, 2018

On Thursday 7 June, the All Saints’ College students from Years 5 and 6 presented their musical production, Archibald’s War. This was held as part of the All Saints’ College Choral Concert which saw students from Kindergarten-Year 6 perform a variety of musical items.

Archibald’s War centres around a little girl named Maggie and her teddy bear, Archibald during the time when children were being evacuated from London during World War II.

After Maggie absent-mindedly leaves Archibald on the train, the story follows the adventures of the teddy bear during the war, ending in a very surprising twist! Cast member, Fergus Campbell said, “Being involved made me feel happy because there were a lot of characters that made me laugh and some moments when I felt sad, especially when the children were being separated from their families to start a new life”. The musical taught the students a lot about what it was like living through World War II.  Year 6 student, Lily Phillips said, “The play was very historical and gave the audience a good idea of what it was like for people in 1939”.

A lot of preparation went into making Archibald’s War a fantastic success, with the students practising their lines and rehearsing their roles for three months prior to the performance. All of the students in Years 5 and 6 very much enjoyed the experience of being involved in the production. They learned a lot from the process and had lots of fun putting it all together.

The Years 5 and 6 students will be travelling to Sydney to perform in the IPSHA Music Festival in August. This event is being held at Sydney Town Hall. As a part of this performance, the students will be presenting a scene from Archibald’s War, including a song and dance item called the Jitterbug.
