  • John Paul Pip ASC at Post in Semifinal

    9 November, 2017

On Wednesday 8 November ASC’s Mock Trial team travelled to The Law Society building in Sydney to compete against John Paul College from Coffs Harbour in the semifinal of the state competition.

The team acted as the Prosecution in a criminal matter where the Defendant was charged under Section 60 (2) of the Crimes Act 1900 with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm.

Charles O’Neill and Bradley Gardiner presented solid arguments and subjected the defence witnesses to some rigorous cross-examination.

They were ably supported by Victoria Westenfelder who had prepared some meticulous pre-trial notes.

Both ASC witnesses, Paxton Hewitt and Fiona Campbell performed the role of police officers who had been involved in Operation Jupiter which targeted anti-social and alcohol-related offences within the Sydney CBD and Darling Harbour precinct.

Paxton claimed that she had received a violent blow and a bleeding nose after she was trying to restrain the defendant.

Timothy Jackman impressed the magistrate with his skills in keeping records and times as the Magistrate’s Clerk.

Unfortunately, ASC lost the trial 212-203 but the team should be extremely proud of their spectacular achievements this year.

Thank you to David Crowley from Kenny Spring Solicitors for his encouragement and legal advice throughout the competition.
