• Chontelle and Ruby Up There With The Best

    10 May, 2018

Two extraordinary ASC swimmers attended the NSWPSSA Swimming Championships, the pinnacle of the state season, at the end of last term.

After an amazing and successful lead-up, Chontelle Burgess and Ruby Thorne were primed for big performances and it was indeed an exciting and momentous day.

Pocket rocket Chontelle Burgess could not have been in better form having broken the 8 Yrs 50m freestyle record at the HICES carnival before recording two massive PB’s at the NSWCIS carnival.

She qualified second after swimming a magnificent heat and fearlessly stood behind the blocks with the best 8-year-old swimmers in the state for the final.

Chontelle swam with blistering speed and determination to push her CIS rival all the way and was only just touched out in the end.

The smallest competitor in the field showed she has the biggest heart and is now officially the second fastest 8-Year-old freestyler in NSW.

Congratulations Chontelle – this is an outstanding achievement.

The versatile and ever determined Ruby Thorne also went into the meet in great form having broken the Jnr 50m butterfly record at the HICES carnival and qualified for NSWPSSA 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and the 200m individual medley with great performances at the NSWCIS carnival.

She was also fortunate to pick up a swim in the 50m breaststroke.

To qualify for so many events at this level is a wonderful acknowledgement of Ruby’s all-around talent.

She was gutsy in her heats, placing 12th overall in both the 50m freestyle and breaststroke and 10th in the individual medley.

Ruby’s main focus was the 50m butterfly where she qualified for the final.

She gave everything she had and finished in sixth position, an incredible result at such a high level and one to be extremely proud of.

Congratulations to both girls on representing the school with such distinction.
