This year’s Bathurst Show was a very successful venture for our cattle team, walking away with seven ribbons in total. I would firstly like to thank, Aimy Butt, Gabby Elias, Emily Sinderberry and Lily McClelland for their tremendous effort over the weekend.
On the Friday the cattle were groomed and presented for judging within their individual breeds and age grounds, there result are as follows:
2nd - Angus heifer under 12 months.
2nd - Angus heifer under 24 months.
3rd - Angus heifer under 12 months.
3rd - Angus heifer under 24 months.
These were smaller classes than we had seen at previous Shows, but the two heifers that beat our cattle went on to claim, Supreme Champion and Reserve Grand Champion, so it was a very tough competition.
Saturday was a chance for the students to compete for both Junior Paraders and Junior Judging. It is very rewarding to observe the improvements in the students over the past four months. Their effort and commitment was clearly visible and all that participated should be extremely proud of their success. Results for the weekend are as follows:
1st - Lily McClelland Intermediate Paraders heat.
4th - Lily McClelland Intermediate Paraders overall.
4th - Gabby Elias Intermediate Paraders heat.
3rd - Gabby Elias Intermediate Junior Judging.
The students’ commitment to the team has been exceptional; they have spent numerous amounts of hours preparing the cattle for the Show. Through their preparation and participation at a number of Shows they have demonstrated many skills and developed a sound knowledge in the area of cattle husbandry. They have established an understanding of the correct procedure for handling the animals, have developed high levels of skills in parading large beasts, and have demonstrated their ability to identify good genetics in a variety of cattle breeds through their junior judging.
Emily Sinderberry, Gabby Elias, Alice Woodlock, Shaun Van Uum and Laura Van Uum competed in the Young Country Achievers Award that was comprised of three sections - literature, interview and practical section. Again the All Saints’ students performed very well and were seen around the showground participating and assisting in many events.
Young Achievers Awards are as follow:
Ist - Alice Woodlock: literature.
3rd - Alice Woodlock overall.
3rd - Laura Van Uum: literature.
Highly commended: Shaun Van Uum, Emily Sinderberry and Gabby Elias
Alice Woodlock also managed to find the time to participate in the Sheep Judging, receiving third place in Wool Breed Sheep Judging and took out the title for intermediate Meat Breed Judging.
