  • All Saints' College Pays Tribute to Hon Sheamus 'Peter' Gebhardt

    GEBHARDT, Hon Sheamus Peter (1936-2017)

    All Saints’ College was saddened to hear of the passing of Mr Sheamus ‘Peter’ Gebhardt on Saturday, 22 July 2017.

    Mr Gebhardt was Headmaster of All Saints’ College from 1967 – 1975 and is remembered as a man with extraordinary vision and energy for the College.

    He came to All Saints’ from Sydney Church of England Grammar School (Shore) after a completing an MA at Harvard University and teaching at Milton Academy in Massachusetts.

    Mr Gebhardt was also the editor of the Headmasters' Conference Journal, represented independent schools on the National Committee on English Teaching and was an executive member of the Arts Council of Australia (NSW Division).

    Following his tenure as the 10th Head of All Saints’, Mr Gebhardt went on to be appointed Principal of The Geelong College from 1976 – 1985.

    In a late career change, Peter decided to utilise his original law degree and enter the legal profession.

    He rose rapidly through the ranks and was appointed a Judge of the Victorian County Court in 1996 serving with distinction for 10 years before retiring to Melbourne.

    Mr Gebhardt was 80 and was married to Christina and father to Nicholas, Sophie and Anna and grandfather to Ruby, Max and Matilda.

    His memorial service is to be held at Trinity College, Melbourne University at 2 pm on Thursday 17 August 2017.

    All Saints’ College students were asked to remember the contributions of Mr Gebhardt to the College at the Senior School Assembly in the week following his passing.
