Junior School

In the Junior School all students participate in the music programme and are members of a Choir and instrumental groups (Band/Orchestra/Guitar Ensemble). These activities take place during the regular timetable and are the result of the inclusive policy of the Junior School. Particularly able instrumentalists are occasionally invited to also join the relevant Senior School ensemble.

Senior School

Students at All Saints' College Bathurst have the opportunity to participate in a broad range of music groups which include Choirs, Bands and Orchestras. The Senior Choir, Senior Concert Band and String Orchestras are all open entry groups, that is, there is no audition. The more advanced groups (Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Choir, Jazz Band and Symphony Orchestra) are by invitation and/or audition.

Additional smaller groups are formed on an 'ad hoc' basis depending on student interest and skill. From time to time the College will present a Musical in collaboration with the Drama Department. Other opportunities to extend talented players are offered through links with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra as well as participation in events such as the Biennial HICES Music Festival.

String Orchestra

All Saints' College has a vibrant string programme from Years 3 to 12.

All Students have the opportunity to ‘test ‘ the violin or cello out in Year 3 and then may chose to continue single private lessons, group lessons and participation in the string ensembles through Years 4 to 12. Students in the Junior School progress from the beginner ensemble, which introduces basic ensemble skills, through the intermediate group which extends the ensemble skills and introduces a wider repertoire.

Some Junior School students are invited each year to perform in the senior string ensemble. This group accepts students without audition from the senior school and performs at wider community and school events. The repertoire and technical skills are chosen to develop and challenge the students and performances are always of a very high standard.

The students may progress from the senior ensemble to the chamber orchestra.

This is an auditioned group whose purpose it to extend and expose senior musicians to more challenging repertoire. The music chosen often has soloist parts for senior students and scholars.

Both the senior ensemble and chamber orchestra are often invited to perform at Bathurst events and small quartets are available for weddings.
