There are many exciting things happening in the term ahead. We will be travelling to Sydney on an excursion to experience what life was like for the early settlers of Australia.
We will also be enjoying an excursion around Bathurstto see how our city has changed over the years since its proclamation in 1815.
There will be a strong emphasis upon performing this term as we prepare for musical items at the Cathedral, SpeechDay and the Carols Service.
We will also enjoy some Christmas craft as the term draws to a close in late November and early December. It will be a very busy and exciting few months ahead.

Year 3 Bathurst Excursion
Year 3 students recently enjoyed an excursion around Bathurst to help them to explore some of the wonderful historical and significant sites in our community.
The class began the day with a lap around Mt Panorama in the College's minibus. Whilst Barney Lavelle drove skilfully around the famous race track we didn't threaten the record time around the circuit.
From here we travelled to Machattie Park where we were treated to a wonderful guided tour of the historic park by local historian, Mr Spencer Harvey. Mr Harvey showed us many special things about the park and the children were very excited about this detailed tour.
After this we enjoyed morning tea in King's Parade and had a close look at the Bathurst Courthouse and Carillon.
Following this Barney drove the class to Miss Traill's House and we were shown through this wonderful old house. It was a great opportunity for the children to see how people lived in years gone by.
Lunchtime saw us arrive at Vic's Pizza House and we were very fortunate that Mr and Mrs Issa generously provided a delicious free lunch for the class. Mr Jackman even arrived for this part of the excursion!
After the pizza we walked across to Annie's Ice Cream where we learnt about the history of the famous ice cream shop, as well as enjoying an ice cream each.
Our final destination was Bicentennial Park near the Macquarie River. The children were interested to see the Peace Gardens and enjoyed looking at the Pioneers' Wall and the Conversation statue.
It was certainly a wonderful day and it provided the students with an opportunity to see how our city has changed over many years.
I would like to thank Mr and Mrs Issa for their generous hospitality, Mr Ray Pickard for accompanying the class (and taking some great photos) and Barney for driving us to and from our destinations. I would also like to congratulate the students on their fabulous behaviour during the day.
Year3 has been learning about simple machines and how they can help us to perform a task more easily. We have investigated the lever, inclined plane and the pulley so far.
Mr Pickard recently joined our class to help us to understand how pulleys and levers work. He brought along a winch and got the children to pull his car along. This was a great example of howa lever can help us perform a difficult task. Mr Pickard then showed us a pulley system that can be used when rescuing people involved in bushwalking and caving accidents.
In this activity the children were first asked to lift a student without the aid of a pulley.Needless to say it was a difficult task. Mr Pickard then put a harness on his son, Tim, and Year 3 had an opportunity to lift Tim using a pulley to help them raise the load.
It took about four students to lift Tim to a significant height, but they were able to get him off the ground. Then Mr Pickard added another pulley to the system and the task became easier again. This time it only took two students to lift the load.
Finally Mr Cant wasput in the harness and the students tried to lift him up. It took quite a few pulleys and quite a few students to lift him off the ground!
The class would like to thank Mr Pickard for sharing his expertise and equipment with us.
Years 3 & 4 Sydney Excursion
Years 3 and 4 recently travelled to Sydney to visit a number of places that were linked to their historical studies in HSIE. The classes had been learning about Australia's indigenous and colonial history and the biennial excursion allowed them to see a number of significant sites in Australia's past.
The students enjoyed exploring Hyde Park Barracks in the Centre of Sydney. This provided them with a glimpse of what life was like for Australia's early convicts.
A tour of the historic Rocks area was next and the tour guides provided a fascinating commentary as we soaked up what life must have been like in the early colony.
The day concluded with a harbour cruise which provided the children with an opportunity to see a number of famous Australian landmarks. These included the Harbour Bridge, The Opera House, Bennelong Point and Fort Denison.
It was certainly a very worthwhile day and I would like to thank Mrs Leonie Keogh, Miss Alisa Thompson, Mrs Jane Corbett-Jones and Mr Ray Pickard for their help with the excursion.
