Dance

Education in Dance is more than just learning how to dance. A balanced education in Dance involves the student in making, performing and appreciating Dance.

Various styles of Dance are studied including Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz and Hip Hop/Funk.  The anatomy of the body and how it works is an important focus in all styles of Dance.

Students look at the history of Dance all over the world and enjoy excursions to Sydney to see performances by such companies as the Sydney Dance Company, the Australian Ballet and the Bangarra Dance Theatre.  They are also given the opportunity to experiment with choreography.

Dance is offered as a 2 Unit subject for Years

11 & 12.  The course has been divided into three sections: core, option and major study.

The core section contains three compulsory modules: performance, composition and appreciation.  The major study allows the student the opportunity to specialize in one of these three core areas.

The option section allows the student to extend their special interest and knowledge in dance-related areas.  The range of options available for study includes:

Introduction to Dance Notation; the Science of Dance; Dance and the Media; Dance and The Arts; and Dance Production.

Two Unit Dance is a rigorous course which, with commitment and dedication, can contribute significantly to the UAI.
